THE GUITAR MASH MISSION

Guitar Mash, a 501(c)(3), creates participatory events for guitarists and music lovers of diverse ages, abilities and backgrounds, connecting people with each other and some of the greatest musicians in the world. Our mission? To return music-making to its social roots.

MARK’S MUSINGS

Inspiring words from Artistic Director Mark Stewart, from a hotel room in Dublin, UK, November 10, 2016.

“I am a long way from home. But my view is unobstructed.
Our country needs bridges. All kinds.
Our country needs to find a way to listen to one another. All ways.
Our way?
You can’t sing with one another without listening to one another.
The humanity of your neighbor is inescapable when you are singing together.
The sense of individual empowerment is unique.
“We Shall Overcome” was adapted from an ancient spiritual “I Shall Overcome.”
When the “I” becomes the “We”…. well, THAT’S IT!
The power of voices united in song  is needed now as much as it has ever been needed.

Songs shared are bridges built.
Let’s get to it.”

“Why is the guitar so attractive? Why does it inspire so many approaches to music?” Mark asks, and tells.
