THE GUITAR MASH MISSION

Since 2012, Guitar Mash, a 501(c)(3), has engaged thousands of people to make music together, along with the world’s greatest guitarists and singer-songwriters. Blurring the lines between audiences and artists, our participatory events cross boundaries of age, culture and socio-economics. The Guitar Mash mission is to connect people with their inner creators and with others around them via small and large-scale events and targeted community outreach.

MARK’S MUSINGS

Words from Artistic Director Mark Stewart, from a hotel room in Dublin, UK, November 10, 2016.

“I am a long way from home. But my view is unobstructed.
Our country needs bridges. All kinds.
Our country needs to find a way to listen to one another. All ways.
Our way?
You can’t sing with one another without listening to one another.
The humanity of your neighbor is inescapable when you are singing together.
The sense of individual empowerment is unique.
“We Shall Overcome” was adapted from an ancient spiritual “I Shall Overcome.”
When the “I” becomes the “We”…. well, THAT’S IT!
The power of voices united in song  is needed now as much as it has ever been needed.

Songs shared are bridges built.
Let’s get to it.”

“Why is the guitar so attractive? Why does it inspire so many approaches to music?” Mark asks, and tells.
